attempt one. fail. all i can say is i gave it a go & thank god those werent home made croissants i used.  my hope was to be able to slice sky high portions of this, as i had at least twenty layers of bread stacked & packed in there. maybe a nights rest will somehow miraculously save this disaster. maybe. maybe not.

sam woke up this morning and told me my hand needed company. he then held my hand. he’s the sweetest kid ever, the sweetest person ever. i made him pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. we are sort of obssessed with pumpkin flavoured anything right now. bring on the gelato.

years ago, when my brother was still only dating lisa (they later married),  i found myself in north york way more than ever before. once in a while i’d pop by yorkdale plaza, just because, and on one of these outings i chanced upon an amazing  piece of thick, dense, raisin cinnamon bread pudding. it was my first encounter with any sort of bread pudding and remains the standard to which i now hold all bread puddings against.  the other day i decided to make banana bread, but i omitted all of the bananas (except one, which i left chunky instead of mashed) and added pumpkin puree instead. the result was nothing like any banana bread i’d made before. what i’d managed to make was a cake that mimicked the texture & appeal of that thick dense, doughy bread pudding i’d eaten years ago. happy accident.

tim cohen once told me not to give up on baking. um, i’d already given up at that point. still, here’s trying to get back into the swing of things. for sams school carnival. i don’t even care that its going to be something like 95 degrees outside tomorrow making it near impossible for the frosting not to ooze right off the chocolate cupcakes causing a colossal mess. at least they looked AMAZING momentarily. maybe that accounts for little to most people, but to me, that’s something.
